seventy times 7

favorite song/favorite band/played live last night.
long island shows with long island bands remind me why i love it here.
the paramount is also a major step up from the crazy donkey, though that place will always hold memories for me.

fantastic.

now as i'm sure it's clear to anyone who reads my blog/knows me, incubus is my favorite band. that being said, this video is HYSTERICAL. mainly because brandon is being completely serious. the open shirt thing blowing in the wind is absolutely fantastic. i mean, i understand it fits with the context of the song, but still. the dramatic hand movements really add something as well. thankfully brandon enjoys being shirtless...a lot, and that part makes it better.

success?

last night one of my professor's was talking about bloomberg throwing the protesters out of the park as a successful task group that got the job done peacefully, efficiently, and with no one getting hurt. perhaps it was efficient, but i'm not too sure about the other two...

No longer lost, we're just hangin' around; One day we'll all be found

i've always had this fascination with abandoned places. even if it is 12 pm and the sun is shining, there's still an eerie feeling of what once was. even when i wear vintage clothing i get this feeling of the unknown. i think about all the things that once went on there. you never know the "firsts" that occurred, or all of the laughs, screams maybe even deaths. just the conversations that happened, the people that walked those floors are complete strangers to you, yet it meant so much to them. i've posted a few photos from an abandoned six flags from hurricane katrina, as well as some abandoned houses. haunting to say the least.

and i almost love this town when i'm by your side.

You woke me from a long sleep
And i'm almost back
Closer than ever
To finding the hidden track
If i told you the truth
You wouldn't like what i said
I almost believed i was dead
There'll be no more waiting
You're gonna melt all the ice
In my head
There'll be no more crying
You're gonna make it all better instead

new york city, center of the universe.

yesterday i went with alyssa to the metropolitan in manhattan. they have a modern art wing now, which i believe is fairly new, and it was absolutely amazing. i saw some picasso, van gogh, warhol and jackson pollock! it was amazing to see some of these works of art in person. i've seen them so many times in books, posters, clothing etc., but it's nothing like seeing them up close. i love that i live so close to a city where everything i could possibly want to do and learn is at my fingertips.

i'd like to think i'm a mess you'd wear with pride.

where you invest your love, you invest your life.

my manager told me a great story this morning about how her friend just happened to be passing a farm where a barn was caught on fire. he went into the house to wake up whoever was home, and it was an elderly couple. they were completely passed out, and needless to say, she showed me the picture and they would have been swallowed in flames. he said he just happened to be in the right place at the right time, but i couldn't stop thinking about how many people would just call the fire dept and be on their way, or not even call. i don't know you, but kudos to you, sir.

so obviously we all knew these were coming...

the best part is that they make awake and zen tea cups!

the long distance lover.

this is so adorable. a scottish designer known as little riot created these pillows for lovers who are far apart from one another. each person wears a ring sensor that wirelessly communicates with the other person's pillow. when the other person is sleeping on the pillow, your pillow begins to glow. if you put your head to the pillow you can even hear the persons heartbeat! i love this idea!! long distance can be so difficult. i believe it can even work overseas but i'm not positive. check it out here.

I’m feeling overwhelmed, overwhelmed
It’s getting out of line, line, line, line
I know I’m not alone
Just adolescents, you and I
It doesn’t make me feel any better

litaaaaa.

i'm obsessed with lita shoes by jeffrey campbell, but as my girl luce and i were discussing last month, they're not the most functional shoe. i can't say that i've tried them on, and jeffrey campbell makes unusually comfy shoes, but i just can't see myself walking into the local starbucks with a pair of lita's on. this isn't LA. with that being said, HOLY SHIT THESE LITA'S ARE AMAZING. i think that these had the potential to be really tacky, but he designed them spot on. i love that the spikes round up on the top. i've found them being sold online for somewhere near $600! that's insane. urban has them for $190 which is really reasonable, and works out well for me. my style has definitely started turning from more florals and bright colors to a lot of plaids and black. maybe i'm going through a phase. either way, i want these...so much.

it's the most wonderful time of the year.

it seriously is. and the start of this wonderful time should be graced with the presence of delicious snacks. this morning i literally jumped up and down when i saw the red cups on the starbucks wall with "gingerbread latte" underneath it. it got me thinking about other fun holiday drinks. yes, there's the conventional (and delicious) gingerbread martini. but what about...GINGERBREAD JELLO SHOTS! omgz. ok, but back to reality; i hunted the inter-web for some intriguing recipes and decided to share this one. mainly because they look so darn cute. most likely making my boyfriend try this with me this weekend. it's better to try these things out now before the holidays come around. no one wants to be struggling on thanksgiving morning with nasty results. trust me, the first year i decided to make green bean casserole i used whole canned mushrooms. my family suffered through it because i was a teenager attempting to cook. and they love me.

ingredients:
  • 1/3 cup Monin Gingerbread syrup
  • 3 tbsp water
  • 3 tbsp sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 1/2 envelopes Knox gelatin (1/2 envelope equals about 1 tsp of gelatin powder)
  • 1/2 cup vanilla vodka
  • 1/2 cup Baileys Irish Creme liqueur
  • 1/3 cup Kahlua coffee flavoured liqueur
  • Whipped topping and maraschino cherry segments for garnish, if desired

Pour gingerbread syrup, water, and sweetened condensed milk into a small saucepan and sprinkle with gelatin. Allow to soak for a minute or two. Heat over low heat until gelatin is fully dissolved, about 5 minutes. Mixture will be a bit thick. When gelatin is dissolved, remove from heat. Mix in the vodka first, then the Bailey’s and Kahlua, stirring well after to each addition to fully incorporate. Strain to remove any un-dissolved gelatin solids.

Pour into molds or pan. Chill until fully set, several hours or overnight.

To serve, unmold or cut into desired shapes. Immediately before serving, garnish each jelly shot with a little whipped topping and a maraschino cherry segment.

Unmolding Tips (metal mold):

  • Allow gelatin to set until completely firm, preferably overnight.
  • Before attempting to unmold, loosen the edges of the gelatin by pulling gently either with a clean fingertip or a knife dipped in warm water to loosen.
  • Dip mold in warm water, just to rim, for 10 seconds (Don't dip for too long, as jelly shots can get a bit melty, losing the crisp detail of the mold. If this happens, don't worry! Just return the mold to the refrigerator for 20-30 minutes and try again!)
  • Lift mold from water and gently pull gelatin from edge of mold with moist fingers. Invert the mold onto a nonstick cookie sheet, and give it a little shake. Repeat the pulling, inverting and shaking process until all the jelly shots have been removed from the pan.

check out her other awesome jello shot recipes here!!! so cool!

where's the line?
